He Wenjue: “Daily Images”

He Wenjue has always been focusing on several themes at the same time and his last series “Daily Images” is a further exploration of his own experiences in life.
Interestingly “The Watch Movie” series has not been discontinued and will probably be shown in a new medium in the future, as the artist wants to take advantage of new technologies.

The “Daily Images” represent a kind of diary, wherein harmonious life but also the hidden uneasiness is depicted.
A careful choice of scenes, like the selection process used in the “Watch Movies” series, aims to reflect life the way it is and therefore images of a colorful market, of simple people playing mahjong in blazing sunshine, of a lady enjoying a peaceful moment in a museum are contrasted with bleaker images in a hospital.
The artist likes peaceful and solitary images because deep inside that is also the way he is. His trademark blurry images are still present as they accentuate the emotional impact of the scenes.
He continues the long tradition of major artists like Hopper, Tuymans and filmmakers like Ridley Scott or Wim Wenders.
